Coach Profile: Claire Royce
Get to know Claire, one of our valued coaches at CrossFit Wrexham.
Why did you decide to become a coach at CrossFit Wrexham?
I discovered CrossFit in the autumn of 2016 and, like many others, was instantly intrigued by the challenge and community it offered. In 2018, the then head coach encouraged me—somewhat reluctantly—to join their Coach Development Program (CDP). To my surprise, I was selected and asked to complete my Level 1 (L1) Certificate.
The L1 course was a turning point for me. I found it incredibly inspiring and immediately knew I wanted to emulate the seminar staff who led it. From that moment, I began to take my coaching journey seriously. Though coaching remains a part-time passion due to my demanding role as a senior nurse, I am fully committed to continual growth and learning the coaching craft, and even recently completed my L2 in February 2024 too.
What are your goals as a coach?
I’m especially passionate about supporting masters athletes. I truly believe it’s never too late to become strong, fit, and capable—and I love helping others discover that for themselves.
What is your favourite CrossFit workout?
My favourite workout of all time is Murph. The story behind it is deeply moving, and it’s the one workout that always unites the community while humbling every athlete.
1 Mile Run
100 Pull-ups
200 Push-ups
300 Air Squats

What are your training goals for 2025?
This year, I’m focusing on building muscle, running a bit more, and—fingers crossed—finding a muscle-up now and then!
What are your favourite things to do outside the gym?
When I’m not in the gym or at work, you’ll most likely find me recharging by the sea with my husband and dog, catching up with friends over coffee (or something stronger), or being kept on my toes by my 18-year-old. My life is full, chaotic, and very rewarding.
