Why We Celebrate Small Wins

Success doesn’t just happen - it needs motivation. And motivation isn’t just about training harder or choosing the right exercises – it’s about finding reasons to keep going, and recognising small wins along the way.

After training for over 15 years, I’ve learned that staying motivated can be a real challenge. We all know that progress isn’t always linear, and sometimes we don’t even notice how far we’ve come. That’s why reflecting on our training, and recognising small successes is so important.

Why small wins matter

Motivation comes from progress. Here’s what we know about motivation:

  • You need to feel successful before motivation kicks in.

  • Success has to be a regular occurrence to keep motivation alive.

  • We’re often our own worst critics and overlook our achievements.

Celebrating small wins helps us stay consistent and committed. They’re proof we’re moving in the right direction—even when it doesn’t feel like it.

How We Recognise Progress at CrossFit Wrexham

At CrossFit Wrexham we focus on progress, not just performance. I encourage all members to track their numbers, notice the improvements, celebrate milestones, and take time each week to reflect on the positives in our lives. Gratitude doesn’t always come naturally, but like any good habit, it becomes easier with practice.

Introducing: Wins of the Week

What Is It?

Wins of the Week is our new weekly community practice. Each Friday, we’ll use the Community Board to share small (or big!) victories—inside or outside the gym.

Why It Matters

  • It keeps motivation high.

  • It helps us appreciate each other’s efforts.

  • It builds a stronger, more connected gym community.

  • Your win could be the thing that inspires someone else.

Being consistent, showing up on a tough day, or finally nailing a skill all count as wins. Your Win of the Week doesn’t have to be about training. Maybe you finally tackled a difficult task at work, or took time for yourself when you needed it. Whatever it is, acknowledging it matters.

Why you should share your wins

The first time, you might hesitate to share. “Do people really care about my wins?” or “I don’t want to put myself out there.” But that’s exactly why it’s important – because we all benefit from seeing each other succeed. Your win could inspire someone else.

So, I’ll always go first. And I encourage you to share just one small success from your week. It could be fitness-related if that feels easier, or something your fitness enabled outside the gym.

What did you do well, improve on, or achieve for the first time this week?

Let’s celebrate it together. Because progress, no matter how small, is worth recognising.
