Coach Profile: Lowri Walker

Get to know Lowri, one of our valued coaches at CrossFit Wrexham.

Why did you decide to become a coach at CrossFit Wrexham?

I watched a TV show one evening after school about a boot camp in America. It was a charity who were helping kids to lose weight and get fit and turn their life around, and then it clicked in my head that I wanted to help do the same. CrossFit is the perfect place to become fit for life - it just makes so much sense to me!

What are your goals as a coach?

I'd love to take CrossFit to schools. I coach the kids class on a Saturday morning and I'd love to get more kids involved with this! I see them grow in confidence and increase their strength and joint stability - it’s so rewarding.

What is your favourite CrossFit workout?

My favourite workout has got to be Murph. 1 mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 air squats and then another 1 mile run.

I LOVE how many people come along and take part together. Watching people's smiley faces when they finish the workout quicker than they thought they could makes my soul happy. I like simple, but tough workouts, and Murph is definitely tough! There's something fun about how hard the second run is...if you don't laugh, you'll cry. This is my kind of vibe in a workout. Collectively complaining about jelly legs, while simultaneously laughing about it, is what our community is about, right?!

What are your training goals for 2025?

The goal for me this year is to do a muscle up. I've been working on it for a while, but I'm not giving up! I like to have a specific goal I can work towards in open gym, and within class. I am a regular in the Gymnastics Class.

And also to compete more.. I absolutely love The Open, so when the post open blues hit, I signed myself up to The Rainhill Trials. I've always thought of competitions as a way to celebrate what you do in the gym everyday. When a workout in class gets tough, I tell myself, if I carry on I'll be glad I powered through when the competition day feels easy! It's nice to have something to train for.

What are your favourite things to do outside the gym?

Outside of CrossFit I love to run track. Track is my favourite kind of running,` and your Garmin beeping with a new 400m PB is a kind of satisfaction only a track girl could explain. I'm also learning to skateboard.. (emphasis on the learning part). It's fun to try new things and see how your training in the gym transfers over to everything else. Spending time with my friends is what fills my cup the most, we love to find new restaurants and have been known to travel unreasonably far in the pursuit of finding the best burger we can, we'd probably even catch a flight if we had to, it's still an ongoing mission πŸ”.
