Coach Profile: Meg Bassett-Rhodes
Get to know Meg, one of our valued coaches at CrossFit Wrexham.
Why did you decide to become a coach at CrossFit Wrexham?
I joined CrossFit Wrexham in August 2023 as a member and instantly fell in love with everything the sport has to offer. From the outside looking in, it's easy to tell yourself that CrossFit is too difficult or that you won't be welcome if you can't lift super heavy, but the spirit of CrossFit Wrexham is exactly the opposite - nothing is ever too difficult with an appropriate scale and you are always, always welcome!
Being given the opportunity to train to be a coach and share the experience with everyone in the CFW community has been awesome and I can't wait to see where the rest of this journey takes me.
What are your goals as a coach?
My current coaching goals are to refine my knowledge of the CrossFit methodology, develop 1-2-1 coaching skills and gain my level 2 qualification.
What is your favourite CrossFit workout?
WODs that combine fast movement to get the engine going and the power of moving the heavy circles are my jam so a benchmark WOD like 'The Chief' (five 3-minute AMRAPs in 19 minutes: 3 power cleans, 6 push-ups, 9 air squats) is one I really enjoy. However, as my confidence in the gym has improved, I am starting to really enjoy long, gritty partner and team workouts.
What are your training goals for 2025?
My personal goals for 2025 as a member of CrossFit Wrexham, is to improve my stamina so I can work harder for longer, and to build strength in bodyweight gymnastics movements, like the handstand push up.
What are your favourite things to do outside the gym?
Off the gym floor I work in education, have 3 awesome dogs called Mouse, Eddie and Tallulah, a Kenyan Sand Boa called Linguini and have been playing in brass bands for nearly 20 years!
